Rheumatoid arthritis

According to Ayurveda mostly pains are caused by the aggravation of Vata dosha. Arthritis is a condition which is caused by accumulation of ama and aggravation of Vata. (Ama) is a toxic by-product of improper digestion. )This Ama circulates in the whole body and deposits or gets collected at the sites which are weaker. When it deposits in the joints and at the same time there is aggravation of Vata , it results in a disease called Amavata. This Amavata is arthritis.
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic disease, affecting mainly joints having a covering, called synovial joints. Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms include inflammation in the joints, excess synovial fluid, and the development of a flap in the synovium. It often leads to the destruction of cartilage (cushioning) between the joints. Rheumatoid arthritis can also manifest in other parts of the body such as lungs, covering sheet of the heart, covering sheet of lungs, etc. In some cases, it also leads to nodule development underneath the skin.
Rheumatoid arthritis causes are not known.  But immunity plays a major role in its manifestation. There is a condition called as auto immunity.. when immune cells of the body, (which are supposed to protect the body cells and fight against foreign invading bacteria virus etc), start killing our own body cells, rheumatoid arthritis sets in. It is like our soldiers fighting against our own people.
Ayurvedic perspective of causes of rheumatoid arthritis is slightly different. According to Ayurveda, the disease is known in the name of Amavata. The main cause for Amavata is altered state of digestion and metabolism caused by unhealthy food habits when there is diminished digestive power, Doing exercise soon after oily food intake, etc.
Symptoms
·         Stiffness accompanied by acute pain in knee joints, finger joints, shoulders, neck and back.
·         Signs of inflammation and tenderness in joints like ankles, elbow, knee and fingers.
·         Joints deform without inflammation and produce crepitus sound leading to osteoarthritis. Difficulty in climbing steps or sitting down on the floor is common.
·         Some people can get osteoporosis which is a silent killer and can cause sudden fractures in the back, hip or knee joints. You can feel pain in back, hip or knee. Your posture can change to stooped posture.
·         Pain and difficulty in walking, standing for long time or sitting on the floor.

Rheumatoid symptoms according to Ayurveda:
·         Body ache, lethargy, heaviness
·         Stiffness in knees, back, finger and toe joints. Joints make crackling sounds, joint pain with swelling.
·         The pain in the joints is similar to sting bite by scorpion!!
·         Constipation, indigestion, fullness of abdomen,
·         Lack of sleep, altered sleeps patterns, etc.
·         Apart from these symptoms, there will be specific symptoms relating to the dominance of Dosha.
·         Based on disease manifestation in heart and other organs, specific symptoms like stiffness in heart etc are mentioned.

Detoxification therapies in Ayurveda are very powerful to cure the root cause of arthritis. It removes toxins from the all parts of the body through purgation therapies and herbal enemas. Detoxification removes blocks and inflammation from the joints, makes it stronger, and improves bone density, resulting in remarkable reduction in pain, swelling, crepitus sound in joints. Detoxification considerably improves conditions like sciatica, spondylitis, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, back pain and neck pain.
Diet for rheumatoid arthritis is very important in the treatment. Rheumatoid arthritis is a complex and chronic disease, involving many systems. In Ayurvedic treatment for rheumatoid arthritis,  diet advice is as important as Panchakarma therapy and the Ayurvedic medicines. Since Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic disease (long-standing), the dietary restrictions are to be observed for a long period of time as well.
Ayurveda enlists the following food to avoid in Rheumatoid arthritis –
1. Curds: Curds are not ideal to take in Rheumatoid arthritis as it affects stomach health. Clarification: Curds does not affect stomach health as such. But in rheumatoid arthritis, curd is best avoided.
2. Fishes  – are to be avoided. But a few research articles show that fish oil, rich in  omega 3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)
3. A green leafy vegetable called Indian spinach Basella rubra  is to be avoided
4. Contaminated water, cold water, frozen ( Preserved) food stuff  causes increase in Vata and Kapha leading to increase in pain and stiffness.
5. Taking contrast foods such as – taking milk with fish, etc.
6. Black gram
7. Avoiding natural urges – causes increase in Vata. Click on the phrase to understand this concept. It causes increase in vata, which is not good in Rheumatoid Arthritis.
8. Skipping night sleep – It causes utter Vata imbalance, which is highly  non recommended in RA.
9. High fat meet, mutton etc.
10. Food that are heavy to digest, deep-fried stuff, junk foods, aerated drinks are a strict no no.
11. Oil massage ( Olietion) – Ayurveda is not all about pouring oils and rubbing on body. In Rheumatoid arthritis, oil massage is not advised, generally.

Benefits of Ashwagandha

Benefits of Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha is used to tone, support, and revitalize bodily functions.1 It has been revered over time for its ironic dual capacity to energize and calm at the same time. Stress can cause fatigue, often manifesting as “hyper” signs like agitation and difficulty sleeping. By providing a nourishing, energizing effect, you can support a healthy nervous system. When the stress doesn’t impact the nervous system as strongly, the “hyper” signs will naturally resolve over time,2 allowing for a calming effect. This quality of Ashwagandha makes it a prime supplement to use in the toning and rejuvenation process.3 In addition to its dual energizing/calming effect, Ashwagandha offers a number of benefits:
1.Supports a healthy immune system.
2.Calms mental processes.
3.Fosters healthy sleep patterns
4.Benefits a healthy reproductive system in both males and
females.
5.Sustains energy levels, strength, and vitality, including with
physical activity
6.Supports healthy back and joints.

Psoriasis and Ayurved

Ayurveda has explained  many skin diseases, which resembles Psoriasis. Psoriasis can be considered as the vitiation of :-  Vata(air) and Kapha(water+earth)(Two of the basic energies/humors, which maintains our body equilibrium).
Accumulation of low potency Toxins (Dooshi vishas/Ama), are the basic pathological changes taking place in the system.
NOTE – Check the previous post for details on TOXINS
Role of Diet:-  consumption of foodstuffs that cannot be eaten together food items like:- excessive intake of yogurt, black gram, seafood, sour and salted items etc are some of  the aggravating factors.  Alcohol and tobacco consumption will act as a catalyst here. Ayurveda do emphasize on the effect of stress in the pathogenesis of Psoriasis.
Treatment:  Coming to the treatment aspects of Psoriasis according to Ayurveda, it aims at the detoxification of the body or elimination of toxins from the body fluids. It is achieved by Panchakarma” treatments.
This includes internal and external medications purely of plant origin as follows :-
(i) Consumption of medicated ghee
(ii) Detoxifying, by inducing vomiting (Vamana) and purgation (Virechana). Followed by either medicated buttermilk dripping overhead (Dhara) and pasting the entire body with a paste of medicines and mud.
It can be cured if the patient is ready to accept the protocol and conditions fixed by the Ayurveda doctor for treatment as well changing the lifestyle. If it is in the initial stage it can be cured without much delay. Otherwise regular treatment continuing for months will be needed. All depends on how the patient accepts the treatment modalities and how strictly follows the dietary protocol for the rest of the life.
Advise from Doctor  – A strict diet regime has to be followed during the entire treatment period and it is better to continue as vegetarian.
Yogurt, black gram, chilies and salted thing have to be restricted. It is better to avoid refrigerated/chilled foods. Psoriatic must keep a state of mental calmness.

Insomnia and Ayurved

Insomnia is seen to be increasing with the changes in lifestyles. With increasing stress, tension, anxiety patterns, overtime working hours and demands for leading high day today lifestyle – stress and anxiety- are not far away resulting in insomnia. Depending on heavy oily food can result in obesity and insomnia.Simple food that is easily digestible is highly recommended. Panchakarma treatment is said to be more effective for patients of Insomnia and its preparatory phase involving Snehana (oleatiion) and Svedhana (steam therepy)are usually prescribed for an insomnia. The success rate of this treatment is said to be very high. This treatment results in the tissues becoming soft, moist and pliable which results in the elimination of toxins and excess Dosha energies from the body and mind easily, effortlessly and completely.
The Shirodhara therapy is one that is done for the treatment of neurological disorders like insomnia, depression, chronic headaches and burning sensation in the head. In this process medicated oil, milk, butter milk., Decoctions  etc. are poured in a continuous stream in the forehead. This process results in cooling the head and improving the blood circulation in the head resulting in a cure to insomnia.

Other treatments for insomnia in  Ayurveda includes Abyangam, which involves massaging of the head, body and foot using medicated oils, Ghee, Milk. This helps in removing toxins and promoting sound sleep. The foot massage or Pada Abhyangam is usually done which promotes mind and body relaxation and encourages a good night’s sleep. Another treatment for stress, anxiety and insomnia includes applying medicated oils mixed with herbal powder in the centre of the head. The above treatments are usually done for acute insomnia, stress and anxiety. Breathing techniques practised under the supervision of a Yogi or Vaidya(Ayurveda Physician) helps eliminate insomnia. The most effective breathing technique to root out insomnia is SudarshanKriya, Pranayama, Anulom Vilom. This powerful breathing technique helps in clearing stress at the physical, mental and emotional levels. It thus relaxes the nervous system enabling the person to have a quality sleep. For a general lack of sleep Ayurvedic treatment can be done at home after consultation with a Vaidya. This includes:-
  • An oil massage before your morning shower to relax your mind.
  • Bearable Hot  shower or bath before retiring to bed at night.

Hair Problems

Ayurvedic ancient texts research on hair growth is extensive and healthy structured. This strong foundation provides Ayurved physiciens effective reasons behind excessive hair fall and the ways to reverse it which in turn results in consistent healthy hair growth. According to Ayurveda, hair type is directly related to body type and is systematically classified into three categories; Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Each hair type has its own renowned features and hence there are multiple reasons for hair loss which vary from person to person because body type is different for each person.
According to Ayurveda, hair is nourished by the nutrient plasma that is derived from the food that you eat. However; certain foods have a negative effect and cause excess Pitta Dosha meaning heat in the body which is the chief reason behind excess hair loss. Apart from Pitta Dosha, other reasons for hair loss according to Ayurveda are hormonal imbalance in men and women, stress, lack of sleep, improper diet, intoxicating substances, dandruff or fungal infections and diseases like lupus or diabetes amongst others. Ayurvedic hair growth solutions address these core issues promoting hair growth .
Dandruff
Dandruff is a condition in which dead skin cells accumulate and fall off from the scalp.
Also, Dandruff is a kind of skin disorder that affects the scalp. Dandruff is a condition in which white, dry flakes of dead skin are shed from the scalp.

2. Hair fall
3. Swaapa ie Numbness
4. Twak sputana (Cracking of the skin)
5. Daruna(Dryness followed with crack in the scalp)
6. Daha (Burning sensation)
7. Gaura (Heaviness) and
8. Toda (Pricking sensation) etc

• Have food with good nutritive value according to Ayurveda Diet.
• Do regular Yoga and exercises to minimize stress levels. People can Do Pranayama, Anulom Vilom with proper guidelines.
• Avoid scratching the scalp with hands, nails or any other objects.
Ayurvedic View
Ayurveda places the problem of dandruff in the category of Shudra Roga, which appears due to an imbalance Vata Dosha.Excessive oily scalp also causes dandruff. Oiliness is caused by Kapha Dosha. Hence, dandruff has involvement of Kapha and Vata Dosha.of all three Doshas. The primary Doshas involved are Pitta and Vata. Pitta is an Ayurveda term which indicates heat or fire and Vata is dry and rough in nature. In an aggravated state, both doshas cause production of specific impurities, called Ama(Aharia Visha ie Poison due to improper lifestyle and food), which are dry and heating in nature. These impurities accumulate in the deep tissues of scalp and contaminate them. Contamination of the deep tissues and aggravated Vata-Pitta Dosha cause itching and patches on scalp. Due to these factors, the scalp sheds larger than normal amounts of dead epidermal cells, which leads to the problem of dandruff.
The Ayurvedic line of treatment is to generally pacify Pitta and Vata through herbal medicines, as well as a tailor-made diet and lifestyle plan. Also, special herbs are administered to cleanse the body of accumulated digestive impurities.

Treatment
Dandruff is caused by unclean scalp, daily stress, dry skin and hair products. Hence to wash off dandruff you need some natural remedies for this skin problem. With the help of Ayurveda treatments you can reduce and prevent dandruff.CPqqRoqUYAAiMIVDr. Dr.Sushant S. Patil

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Ancient Water Therapy For Boosting Immunity

Our metabolic system has the capacity to heat up the chilled things entering the stomach, but there is no process to cool down the hot things up to the healthy or normal temperature. Consumption of hot tea, coffee, other drinks or eatables damages the delicate tissues in our tongue, food pipe and the stomach; these give rise to ulcers at times, which might become cancerous, if neglected.

Not using Toilet before drinking water will give a sense of discipline & routine for Drinking water.

Ayurved Treatment and Diagnosis

 Ayurved Treatment and Diagnosis

कालार्थकर्मणां योगो हीनमिथ्यातिमात्रक: सम्यग्योगश्च विज्ञेयो रोगारोग्यैक कारणम्

Less, more or wrong unison of time, senses and functions is the reason for disease and the right unison of these three factors is the reason for health

Diagnosis
Ayurveda has eight ways to diagnose illness, called Nadi (pulse), Mootra (urine), Mala (stool), Jihva (tongue), Shabda (speech), Sparsha (touch), Druk (vision), and Aakruti (appearance). Ayurvedic practitioners approach diagnosis by using the five senses.[35] For example, hearing is used to observe the condition of breathing and speech.[6] The study of the lethal points or marman marma is of special importance. Also diseases can be diagnosed in either eight steps or ten steps

Ashta Sthana Pareeksha (Eight step diagnosis)
There are three main methods for diagnosing a disease and Dosha imbalance in a person. They are:By observing the patient’s physical appearance and symptoms- colour of skin, hair, eyes, behaviors, body condition etc.By asking detailed questions to know about the degree of imbalance of each Dosha It includes checking the pulse (Nadi Pareeksha), palpitation, percussion and auscultation of a personAlso diseases can be diagnosed in either eight steps or ten steps
  • Nadi (Pulse diagnosis)
  • Jihwa (examination of tongue)
  • Malam (examination of stool)
  • Mootram (examination of urine)
  • Sabdam (examination of voice)
  • Sparsanam (examination of body temperature)
  • Drik (examination of eye ball)
  • Akriti (examination of the physique)
Dasa Visha Pareeksha (Ten step diagnosis)

  • Dooshyam (examination of the seven Dathus and Doshas)
  • Desham(examination of the surroundings)
  • Balam (examination of the strength)
  • Kalam (examination of season)
  • Analam (examination of Agni)
  • Prakruti (examination of Body Constitution)
  • Vayas ( examination of Age)
  • Satwam (examination of Mental Power)
  • Satmyam (examination of Compatibility)
  • Aharam (examination of food habits)

What is the initial examination?
Ayurvedic examinations generally consist of three parts:

·        Observation (Darshan): The practitioner first evaluates general physical health by looking at the patient and observing his/her movements, body contour, color of the skin and eyes, facial lines and ridges, shape of the nose, and qualities of the lips, hair, and nails.
·        Touch (Sparsha): The practitioner then employs touch, including palpation (pressing down on parts of the body, called sparshanam in Ayurveda), auscultation, which is listening for sounds made by the internal organs (shrvanaa), and percussion or tapping (akotana). There is special focus on the patient's pulse, tongue, nails, and speech. Laboratory testing is also included under this category.
·        Questions (Prashna): The practitioner asks the patient about complaints and symptoms, as well as the duration of discomfort and disease progression. The practitioner also inquires about mental and psychological conditions.

 Treatment and prevention
Two of the eight branches of classical Ayurveda deal with surgery (Shalya and Shalakya-tantra), but contemporary Ayurveda tends to emphasise attaining vitality by building a healthy metabolic system and maintaining good digestion and excretion Ayurveda also focuses on exercise, yoga, and meditation. One type of prescription is a Sattvic diet.
Ayurveda follows the concept of Dinacharya, which says that natural cycles (waking, sleeping, working, meditation etc.) are important for health. Hygiene, including regular bathing, cleaning of teeth, skin care, and eye washing, is also a central practice.
Ayurvedic treatment can be broadly classified into two:
शोधनं शमनं चेति समासात् औषधं द्विधा शरीरजानां दोषाणां क्रमेण परमौषधम्

बस्ति: विरेको वमनं तथा तैल घृतं मधु:

The regimen includes massage, steam treatment, vamana (induced vomiting),virechana (use of prescribed herbal and oil-based laxatives) and basti (medicated enema), blood letting, and nasya (a nasal treatment). These treatments are followed by a strict dietary and herbal regimen, a rejuvenating therapy, and recommendations for daily routines. Note: this invasive procedure requires the supervision of a trained Ayurvedic practitioner; contraindications and side effects should be closely monitored
