Consumption of hot tea, coffee, other drinks or eatables damages the delicate tissues in our tongue, food pipe and the stomach; these give rise to ulcers at times, which might become cancerous, if neglected.

Ayurved Treatment and Diagnosis

 Ayurved Treatment and Diagnosis

कालार्थकर्मणां योगो हीनमिथ्यातिमात्रक: सम्यग्योगश्च विज्ञेयो रोगारोग्यैक कारणम्

Less, more or wrong unison of time, senses and functions is the reason for disease and the right unison of these three factors is the reason for health

Diagnosis
Ayurveda has eight ways to diagnose illness, called Nadi (pulse), Mootra (urine), Mala (stool), Jihva (tongue), Shabda (speech), Sparsha (touch), Druk (vision), and Aakruti (appearance). Ayurvedic practitioners approach diagnosis by using the five senses.[35] For example, hearing is used to observe the condition of breathing and speech.[6] The study of the lethal points or marman marma is of special importance. Also diseases can be diagnosed in either eight steps or ten steps

Ashta Sthana Pareeksha (Eight step diagnosis)
There are three main methods for diagnosing a disease and Dosha imbalance in a person. They are:By observing the patient’s physical appearance and symptoms- colour of skin, hair, eyes, behaviors, body condition etc.By asking detailed questions to know about the degree of imbalance of each Dosha It includes checking the pulse (Nadi Pareeksha), palpitation, percussion and auscultation of a personAlso diseases can be diagnosed in either eight steps or ten steps
  • Nadi (Pulse diagnosis)
  • Jihwa (examination of tongue)
  • Malam (examination of stool)
  • Mootram (examination of urine)
  • Sabdam (examination of voice)
  • Sparsanam (examination of body temperature)
  • Drik (examination of eye ball)
  • Akriti (examination of the physique)
Dasa Visha Pareeksha (Ten step diagnosis)

  • Dooshyam (examination of the seven Dathus and Doshas)
  • Desham(examination of the surroundings)
  • Balam (examination of the strength)
  • Kalam (examination of season)
  • Analam (examination of Agni)
  • Prakruti (examination of Body Constitution)
  • Vayas ( examination of Age)
  • Satwam (examination of Mental Power)
  • Satmyam (examination of Compatibility)
  • Aharam (examination of food habits)

What is the initial examination?
Ayurvedic examinations generally consist of three parts:

·        Observation (Darshan): The practitioner first evaluates general physical health by looking at the patient and observing his/her movements, body contour, color of the skin and eyes, facial lines and ridges, shape of the nose, and qualities of the lips, hair, and nails.
·        Touch (Sparsha): The practitioner then employs touch, including palpation (pressing down on parts of the body, called sparshanam in Ayurveda), auscultation, which is listening for sounds made by the internal organs (shrvanaa), and percussion or tapping (akotana). There is special focus on the patient's pulse, tongue, nails, and speech. Laboratory testing is also included under this category.
·        Questions (Prashna): The practitioner asks the patient about complaints and symptoms, as well as the duration of discomfort and disease progression. The practitioner also inquires about mental and psychological conditions.

 Treatment and prevention
Two of the eight branches of classical Ayurveda deal with surgery (Shalya and Shalakya-tantra), but contemporary Ayurveda tends to emphasise attaining vitality by building a healthy metabolic system and maintaining good digestion and excretion Ayurveda also focuses on exercise, yoga, and meditation. One type of prescription is a Sattvic diet.
Ayurveda follows the concept of Dinacharya, which says that natural cycles (waking, sleeping, working, meditation etc.) are important for health. Hygiene, including regular bathing, cleaning of teeth, skin care, and eye washing, is also a central practice.
Ayurvedic treatment can be broadly classified into two:
शोधनं शमनं चेति समासात् औषधं द्विधा शरीरजानां दोषाणां क्रमेण परमौषधम्

बस्ति: विरेको वमनं तथा तैल घृतं मधु:
  • Sodhana Chikilsa (Purification Therapy)

The regimen includes massage, steam treatment, vamana (induced vomiting),virechana (use of prescribed herbal and oil-based laxatives) and basti (medicated enema), blood letting, and nasya (a nasal treatment). These treatments are followed by a strict dietary and herbal regimen, a rejuvenating therapy, and recommendations for daily routines. Note: this invasive procedure requires the supervision of a trained Ayurvedic practitioner; contraindications and side effects should be closely monitored

The principles of treatment are Shodhan (Purificatory), Shaman (Palliative and Conservative), Nidan parivarjan (Avoidance of Causative and Prescipitating Factors of Disease) and Pathya Vyavastha (Diets & Lifestyle). Shodhan therapy includes Vamana (Medically Induced Emesis), Virechana (Medically Induced Laxation), Vasti (Medicated Enema), Shirovirechana (Administration of Medicines through Nose) and Raktmokshan (Blood Letting). These therapeutic procedures are collectively known as Panchkarma. Before executing Panch karma treatment Snehan (Olation) and Swedan (getting perspiration) are to employed first.

1.Daiva vyapasraya : Means treating disease with herbal medicines, fasting, good diet, exercise, prayer of god etc.
2.Yuktivyapasraya : Treating by a good planning of food and medicines.
3.Satvavajya :Treating by keeping patient mind away from bad things and by indulging in fruitfull things.
Ayurveda has a wide scope as far as the prevention of disease, promotion of health and its preservation are concerned. The Charaka Samhitha, believed to be the oldest Ayurvedic text on internal medicine, which describes the medicinal qualities of 650 plants. These plants now form the raw materials for the herbal drug industry in India. The text was written by Charaka referring the books of Agnivesha and Athreya acharya.Charak discussed about the medicinal herbs, diagnosis & treatment of disease Charaka samhita includes eight branches in Ayurveda; they are Kayachikistha(medicine), Salakya(deals with the diseases of super clavicular region), Salyapahartrka(deals with extraction of foreign bodies), Visa-gara vairodhika prasamana(deals with alleviation of poison), Bhuta vidya(spirits or organisms), Kaumarabhrtya(pediatrics), Rasayana(promotive measures).
Inappropriate relationship with environment and people resulted in life style disorders. Depression, stroke, obesity, arteriosclirosis, alzheimers, heart diseases, cancer, liver diseases, diabetes are the outcome of changing life style. Ayurvedic herbs with their therapeutic effect can protect these dangerous diseases. Centella asiatica, Bacopa, Anise, Parsley, Celery can enhance memory power Abultion Indicom, Cassia fistula, Calotrophis giganta, Felipta postrate and Basilla Rubaca reduces Arteriosclerosis. Black pepper, sunflower, cardamom, seasame, and Terminalla arjuna can prevent heart diseases Lotus, Ginger, Pippali, Cummin helps to control Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Raphanus Sativus, Rauwolfia serpentine, Beal fruit, Chiraita can control diabetes. Berry berry, Luffa cyllindrica, Bear Haavia diffussa, Anantmul, and Hapusha reduce Nephritis.

PANCHKARMA PROCEDURE
The whole procedure of Panchkarma is divided into 3 steps :
Purva Karma
, Pradhan Karma and Paschat Karma

PURVA KARMA

The set of procedures which Ayurveda prescribes to facilitate the removal of toxins from the tissues is collectively called Purvakarma. There are Two Purvakarmas :
Snehana
and Swedana

SNEHANA (Therapeutic Oleation)

SVEDANA (Therapeutic Heat)

PRADHAN KARMA

According to the Charak Samhita, the body normally uses three routes to eliminate waste products and toxins: the mouth, anus, and pores of the skin. The three doshas act as the vehicle which carries toxins either upward, downward, or out through the periphery.doshasmove these impurities from the deep structures to the G-I tract and from the G-I tract to the body's three main outlets. There are five PradhanKarmas : Vamana, Virechana, Basti,RaktaMokshan and Nasy

VAMANA (Therapeutic Emesis)
The emesis procedure used in vamana is quite smooth and painless, with little or no nausea or discomfort. This procedure for discharging excess kapha was designed to be accomplished with great ease.

The herbs used to produce the emetic effect provide the main keys to successful vamana. These herbs are yashti madhu (Licorice) and madan phal (Randia Dymotorum).

VIRECHANA
(Therapeutic Purgation)
Virechana works in a downward direction to eliminate pitta related toxinsand excess pitta in the form of acidic secretions. Since pitta has a close connection with the blood, it also helps remove waste matter and toxicity from the blood.
BASTI (Therapeutic Enema)

Basti is the introduction of medicated liquids into the colon through the rectum. While it directly effects the colon, its is not a localized or symptomatic treatment. Basti treatments balance and nurture vata dosha. When vata functions normally, it helps bring toxins and waste matter out of the dhatus and eliminates them.

Basti therapy is the most effective treatment for chronic constipation, low back pain, sciatica, rheumatism, gout, arthritis, hemiplegia, poliomyelitis, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's Disease, multiple sclerosis and dystrophy and atrophy of nerves and muscles. It benefits epilepsy, mental retardation, and sensory dysfunction.

RAKTAMOKSHAN
(Therapeutic withdrawal of Blood)
Rakta Mokshan is a purification treatment to be used when excess toxins are being carried in the blood to the periphery of the body. Rakta Dhatu and Pitta Dosha are closely associated and their functions are interrelated. The blood, which represents rakta dhatu, is formed and regulated by the liver, spleen and bone marrow, which perform pitta related work. For this reason, when toxins appear due to excess pitta, they concentrate in the blood.

When excessive pitta related ama exists in the blood, it gets transported to the body's periphery, where it often produces characteristic symptoms like skin inflammation , Acute symptoms can usually be relieved within a few hours by simply removing a small amount of toxic blood from the affected area by use of leach.
Raktamokshana treats blood-related diseases, skin disorders: chronic itching, eczema, urticaria, rashes and leukoderma. It is also indicated for enlarged liver or spleen, gout and some types of headaches and hypertension. Its mostly prescribed during the end of summer and during autumn.

NASYA (Therapeutic cleansing of Sinuses)

Nasya is indicated in diseases of the head and neck. It is used for dry nasal passages, as well as sinus congestion, common cold, chronic sinusitis, allergies and allergic rhinitis. It relieves chronic vascular headaches, migraine, epilepsy, and has a positive effect on degenrative diseases of the brain and mental retardation.

PASCHAT KARMA

The set of procedures that follow the main eliminative treatments of Panchkarma are called,PaschatKarma. They assure the re-establishment of healthy metabolic function and immunity. If these post-procedures are neglected, digestion will become poor and again toxins will regenerate in body and can produce illness so paschatkarma should be done properly.
There are two procedures of Paschat Karma : Samsarjana Karma and Rasayan Chikitsa

SAMSARJANA KARMA (Graduated Diet) Proper and healthy diet should be taken.

RASAYANA CHIKITSA (Rejuvenation Therapy) After panchkarma rejuvenation therapy shold be given for good health.

Ahara Is main Medicine

Ahara Is main Medicine
When diet is wrong medicine is of no use. When diet is correct medicine is of no need. Taking heavy meals in short durations without earlier meals properly digested produces toxins (AMA). Kala Viruddha (Time against): Intake of cold and dry substances in winter, Pungent and hot substances in summer. Combination of fruit salad, milk & banana should be avoided. One should not take fish along with milk because this combination is Abhishyandi (great obstructer for channels), it vitiates blood. Using Yoghurt with Milk, Fish with Milk, ACHAR (Pickle) with Milk, Honey with Ghee (Butter) are some VIRUDHA AHARA (in competent food) if taken together, they produce a lot of toxins in our body. Taking fish and cheese preparations along with alcohol, this is a deadly combination and can easily lead to skin diseases, because fish with milk products like cheese are contraindicated. Drinking cold water after taking hot tea or coffee is bad (virudha). Consuming Curd at night is not advised. Health Care During Rainy Season : Do-take Honey with Food.(Don't heat honey),Sour and salty tastes, Eat old rice, wheat barly, use Boiled water for Drinking. Don't take the foods which are heavy,Preserved food items and Fruits in Excess. Life style to be adopted -Take proper Ayurvedic Health Care &Detoxification of Pitta.
